Sustainability Engineer

A leading premium automotive business and leading to move towards electric autonomous vehicles.WHAT TO EXPECT The environmental sustainability of our products is central to our business strategy and critical in realising our future net zero vision in 2039. This role sits in a growing Product Sustainability team which operates within the Product Engineering function within Jaguar Land Rover covering technical disciplines including Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), End of Life Vehicles (ELV), Circularity and Provenance.This role will enhance the sustainable performance of our vehicles by integrating sustainability requirements and improvement opportunities into the strategy, design and engineering of JLR vehicles and provide support to the wider business through the development of processes and data relating to the attributes core technical disciplines. All whilst ensuring transparency and traceability of technical data to ensure we are truly improving the sustainability of the product.Key Accountabilities and ResponsibilitiesCollaborate with multiple stakeholders to embed sustainability strategy and targets into vehicle programmes and commodities through the Programme Strategy and Commodity Strategy Review phases. Ensuring delivery of sustainability targets and legal compliance throughout PCDS (Product Creation & Delivery System).Ensure key strategic changes and lessons learned are captured into key business processes including but not limited to Bill of Design (BoD), Evidence Based Engineering Review (EBER) and Soucing Board Review (SBRs).Regularly reviewing and scoping out implementation of sustainability initiatives across different industries and automotive suppliers to embed into products.Key tasks will include: * Creation of targets and coordination of solutions to deliver against targets into vehicle commodities and programmes.* Ensuring sustainability improvements are captured into key documents ensuring alignment with rest of business i.e. vignettes, PDLs, CSR papers etc. * Lead sustainability related benchmarking/ futuring activity as required to build business rationale* Identify in-efficiencies in vehicle design (working with design and engineering) to improve utilisation of materials and embed design for sustainability methodology into vehicle programmes whilst ensuring alignment with commodity strategy* Feeding into key product communications for sustainability ensuring accurate information is presented i.e. customer immersion events, launch packs, product brochures etc. * Supporting all functions and internal and external stakeholders in the consistent use of sustainability data across all materials, components, modules, commodities and vehicle programmes.* Support programme environmental compliance activities as required.Promote sustainability best practices across the team and business in line with sustainability strategy.Support the development of data and processes to help quantify the environmental benefit of new technologies and customer initiatives.Undertake any other work as directed by their line manager in connection with their job as may be requestedWHAT YOU NEEDKnowledge and experienceEssential:* Project management skills with ability to prioritise own workload and deliver to deadlines.* Takes initiative to resolve issues and find solutions to engineering challenges* Strong analytical skills with ability to understand and manipulate data to effectively communicate technical information to a wide range of audiences.Desirable:* Understanding of key sustainability aspects: e.g. climate change, energy efficiency, resource efficiency and depletion* Previous experience of embedding sustainability improvements into a product* Knowledge of Life Cycle Assessment, Circularity, Provenance & Environmental Legislation* Relevant degree or equivalent experience preferred* Microsoft package elements Project, Power Point and Excel* Knowledge of whole vehicle engineering knowledge and cross functional experience.* Understanding and application of agile principles* Understanding of PCDS (Product Creation & Delivery System)
